The Egyptians venerated Seshat. One reason for this is that they highly valued writing. As James Bennett and Vivianne Crowley write in Magic and Mysteries of Ancient Egypt, "For Egyptians, writing was a magical activity imbued with mystical powers."
This gave the goddess of writing a lot of clout. She was called on by scribes, priests, and royalty to bring her divine powers to enhance their deeds. She was also called on to write of them after death, and it was considered an honor to have your name inscribed in the Tree of Life by Seshat.
