These images show the wall relief from the Ramesseum, the mortuary temple dedicated to Ramesses II in Thebes. The scene depicts the deities Atum, Seshat, and Thoth inscribing the name of Rameses into the fruit of the Persea, the sacred tree of Heliopolis. This is one of the most famous images of Seshat and Thoth and it has been replicated many times in books and on parchment. All the pharaohs wanted their names inscribed into the Tree of Life by these two and it was considered both a great honor and a necessity for passing successfully into the otherworld and into a healthy afterlife.
